SANTA MARIA ROMANESQUE MONASTERY AT L’ESTANY

It is a Romanesque Catalan jewel and in the past, one of the main abbeys in the country. It was founded in the year 1080 and was the residence of the Augustan religious community. The cloister is the most attractive feature of the monastery and the double columns with their magnificent capitals are outstanding. The XII century church displays the same primitive, simple and austere style. We must point out in particular the alabaster sculpture of the Virgen (s. XIV).
